Today marked the 6th day that we have been Matucana, sadly enough, it also means that it was the last day that we had all 13 of us together. Sally, Patrick, Haley, Juan, Jared and Robert left this morning to continue their churro search in Lima and eventually, America. We are so happy to have had them for the time we have been here and are excited for what holds for them back in America. Looking back on the week, its only natural for us to wonder if we had any lasting impact on the people here so far. Before we left on the trip we wondered if a week or two would have been long enough for us to build lasting friendships, and I am here to tell you that it is. The group leaving today has left with the knowledge that their time here has had an incredible impact on the people here in Matucana. God´s divine hand has been in everything that we have done for it would have been impossible to do what we have done so far without Him.
After saying goodbye to the other team, we (Kris, Cathleen, Caitlin, Andrew, Matt, Indya and Caleb) set off to the church to teach the children some songs and wicked cool Bible stories. Afterwords, we met up with some Peruvian Soccer Players with the hopes of utterly destroying them....we were soooo wrong. Fortunately for us, the showed mercy by evenly dividing up the teams between us. After a rough match where Cathleen miraculously scored a goal, Indya tackling anyone who had the ball and kicking the ball onto the train tracks...we survived our first game. the game was followed by a well deserved naptime.
...it has been 96 hours since the last churro sighting...
